Distillation Apparatus
distillation apparatus

Distillation is a common laboratory technique. It is used to separate mixtures with differing properties; the efficiency depends on the rate of heat exchange between the fluid being distilled and the coolant.

Direct flow distillation: Suitable for mixtures, whose components have boiling points which differ by at least 25°C.

Reverse flow distillation: The separation is successful for mixtures whose components have boiling points which differ by at least 0.5°C.

Distillation column heads, vapor dividers and liquid dividers are available for manual or automatic control. Manual controlled column heads have stopcocks that have the disadvantage of grease and leakage. Glass needle valves provide better seals and repeatability. For constant, reproducible reflux ratios electromagnetic controlled vapor dividers and liquid dividers are available.
Tapered glass items are available to US standards ASTM E676 astm
liquid divider
Manual Liquid Dividers
are provided with one or two glass needle valves for control and on/off functions. A version with a reflux cap and manual control is also available.
Manual Liquid Divider with Tempering Jacket adds a tempering jacket around the distillate drain to heat or cool the distillate. A version is available with a tempering jacket between the glass needle valves on the coolant outlet.

Electro Magnetically Operated Liquid Divider
uses an electromagnet to attract or repel a suspended funnel that is in the column. The magnet is controlled by a timer and allows accurate control of the reflux ratio. Tempering jacket on the outlet tube enables use of light volatile fluids and fluids with high melting points.
electric liquid divider
vapor divider
Electro Magnetically Operated Vapor Dividers
are used for separating difficult substances such as light volatile substances and two-phase azeotropes. A standard design will work well for most substances; a second version has a tempering jacket around the drain tube from the column to the distillate receiver.

Kaminsky Micro Liquid Divider
has an evacuated silvered jacket on the laterally located descending condenser. They are suitable for small condensate volumes where accurate reflux ratios are required. They are compact and have provision for a thermometer. Manual and electro magnetically controlled versions.
kaminsky divider
heteroazeotrope divider
Hetero- Azeotrope Column Adapter For withdrawing either the specific light or heavy phase, these column heads are available in two different designs. During the distillation the rising vapor flows via the outer steam tube into the condenser and condenses. The distillate divides in a system of concentric tubes. One phase is led back as reflux to the column the other one is lateral drained.

Anschütz-Thiele Receiver is a special graduated receiver with vacuum jacket for use when the fluid flow is to be measured for specific time intervals in a continuous distillation process.
Anschütz-Thiele Receiver with Stopcocks
has additional 4mm bore stopcocks.

Boiling Capillaries for various ground joint sizes.
